What is Asbestos and When Do You Need to Do Testing
Asbestos is a component of many building materials such as roofing, roofing mastics, flooring, flooring mastics, drywall tape and joint compound, window glazing, siding, popcorn ceilings, insulation and pipe insulation and so many more for its strength and fire-resistant characteristics. Any material not made from wood, metal or glass may be an asbestos containing material or (ACM). Homeowners, Landlords, Business owners, and contractors must perform testing and onsite survey prior to disturbing or demolishing any materials that could be ACM. Any time you are remodeling, demolishing, repairing or otherwise disturbing materials that may contain asbestos an inspection and testing is required. Asbestos can be extremely harmful to one’s health and serious respiratory issues can arise from expose. Three of the major health affects are Lung Cancer, Mesothelioma and Asbestosis. Asbestos fibers may be released into the air by the disturbance of asbestos containing materials during demolition work, repairing, remodeling or conducting home maintenance.
